Bio

Chronic Dream is the musical project of keyboardist and composer David Burgess, best known for
co-founding Scarlet, a goth and alternative rock band that made its mark in the Los Angeles music
scene. After his time with Scarlet, Burgess shifted his focus to composing for independent film
projects, honing his ability to create evocative, cinematic soundscapes.
Years later, Burgess reemerged with Chronic Dream, a project that channels his passion for moody,
atmospheric electronica. Chronic Dream debuted with the single "Seclusion" in December 2021,
followed by the 2022 release of Into the Night, a critically lauded album of dark instrumental tracks.
The album's cover art was created by legendary punk and post-punk photographer Edward Colver,
adding a visual aesthetic that perfectly matches the music's introspective tones.
By 2023, Chronic Dream began evolving its sound with a focus on collaborations that merge
electronic atmospheres with dynamic vocal performances. The first of these, "Untrue," featured
Scott Baker Graham and marked the beginning of a partnership with James K Ultra of Pain in the
Yeahs, who joined as co-producer and mixer for all future releases. The second collaboration,
"Rust," highlighted James's dual role as producer and vocalist, adding layers of raw emotion to
Chronic Dream's sonic palette. Most recently, "Middle of the Night," featuring Jimmi of Tokyo Teens,
exemplified the synergy between Burgess's sophisticated electronic soundscapes and Jimmi's
dynamic vocal expression.
With new collaborations in the works and a steady stream of releases planned, Chronic Dream is
carving out its place in the modern electronic music landscape. For fans of introspective,
boundary-pushing sounds, Chronic Dream delivers a fresh take on dark electronica that resonates
deeply with both listeners and collaborators alike.
